The Painting/Varnishing and Other Parties

Julie, Linda, Lisa and Rachael have been the main painters of the group; their results have been prolific. The entire faces of all walls and trim facing the center plaza are painted with darker accents on the architectural features of the building. The largest dorm room has all new paint, as well as the hallways and common areas to two smaller rooms. By the time we left, I would estimate that 75% of the entire place had been painted.

Julie would rise before light and start painting since it was a quiet job not disturbing anyone else. Julie achieved our most prolific painter award.

Kai and Ti hustled three unused bunk beds from the Mayan Hope school volunteer dorm via pickup truck to Popi's. I wish I had a picture of lifting the pieces to the second floor dorm area from the center plaza. Especially the one bunk head board that still had one side rail attached to it. (The hardened screw had broken off apparently when installed and there was no getting it out.)

Haven, Willa and Rachael have been the varnishers along with Julie, Lisa and Linda. Three sets of bunk beds have been sanded and varnished, all the recently installed wood work and doors in the smaller rooms and common area were given two coats and look marvelous.
Break time for the bunk varnishers.
A project that Linda spearheaded was to crotche rugs from clothes scraps. With just the material Don had on hand, there now exists the beginning of a great looking rug.
